Layout

Suddenly I felt an undeniable urge for darkness and a sidebar, so I changed the layout completely.

I found Atopa on the dotclear site, and since I liked the layout and colors, I decided to use it as a starting point.

And ended up with what you're looking at.

Linkdump for week 52, 2008

  • STRANGEco.com: Wonder Women of America: Shot entirely during 2007’s San Diego Comic Con, Wonder Women Of America features normal everyday women from all walks of life who just happen to be proud of their geeky side and are not afraid to flaunt it.
  • Tickl: Tickl makes happy people horny
  • Kashklash: We are envisioning a new world where today’s aging, less useful and even dangerous financial systems are replaced by or mixed with more disruptive innovations and exchanges. Imagine yourself deprived of all of today’s financial resources. Maybe you’re a refugee or stateless. Yet you still have your handset and laptop and Internet and a broadband cellphone connection….
  • The story of the ocean
  • Webwithoutwords: facebook.com: Its easy to pile up hatred for anything popular in the web world (for every MySpace there's a Facebook, for every Facebook there's a LinkedIn, for every LinkedIn there's a VIRBº), and become persuaded by what you hear. I'm no different. Facebook isn't as bad as I want it to be -- and believe me, I really want to dislike it. The grid (of the profile page, which you see here) is simple and straight-forward, columns, the middle as the largest with the most relevant and revolving information and the right sidebar entirely for (nearly) seamlessly incorporated ads.

De kersttoespraak van Koning Albert, gezien door de ogen van Wordle. 't Is weliswaar (bijna) schaamteloos gejat van Luc, maar dan wel zonder de interpersonele solidariteit ter discussie te stellen. Dat telt ook mee.

Just playing a little bit to enhance laziness:

Bottom line: one action, lots of double/cross posting result.
Let's fill the internet with even more useless content :p

I haven't the faintest clue what all this HKEY business is about. I am a Doctor, not an IT consultant. All I know is that my Vista won't update.
Vista is a phenomenally expensive piece of software failing to run on a phenomenally expensive machine, and wasting a phenomenal amount of my time.
Next time I will buy a Mac.
And no, I don't have a website.

Steve Clements: Vista: Windows Update not working on a domain, via Volatile Minds: Useless comments

Dear Andrew, please do everybody a huge favor and buy a toaster. Those things do one thing very good: toast everything you put in it. Computers are not toasters, they tend to be a little bit more complex and usually break spontaneously when faced with ignorance. Trust me, it's a feature, not a bug.

alt.paid.for.windows

....
<http402> Time to bend over and apply a patch,
<http402> Your brain's throwing static like a CD with a scratch.
<http402> Your connection got nuked and you've met your match.
<http402> You run a single process like a VAX with a batch.
<http402> I'd pass the torch to a real winner
<http402> But it'd just scorch a while-loop spinner
<http402> Caught in a loop that you cant escape,
<http402> I run clock cycles around your words and flows,
<http402> Cuz your rhyme is like a PS fan: it' blows,
<http402> Your water-cooled lyrics leak and it shows,
<http402> Take your ass back to alt.paid.for.windows.
<djahandarie> Good god, I can't even respond to that. :P
<djahandarie> You win haha

gOS Cloud

The new Cloud OS product, which was announced today at the Netbook World Summit in Paris, France, is specifically designed for netbooks and nettop computers. Cloud boots “in seconds” into a browser that is specifically designed to make access to cloud based applications, like Google’s suite of web apps, quick and easy via a built-in Mac OS X-like dock that has been added to the browser. Notice that the browser looks a lot like Google Chrome, which is open source. That seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

System migration

As of today, this site is running on dotclear. I migrated all the content and dug up some old ones from the Wayback Archive. Compared to Snews, dotclear is a more flexible and modern system, with a lot more advanced features. See the feature list. Also, don't get fooled by the name, it does run on/with LAMP.

Down below, inside the footer (the black part), I added my Flickr and Twitter stream. And of course, the RSS feed has changed, although I will add a redirection rule in the htaccess, it might be a good idea to update it in your feed reader: feed/rss2

If you encounter issues with this new engine, let me know in the comments.
